Health & Nutrition

From his early days in Miami, our founder Carl DeSantis, has been passionate about health and nutrition. His interest spurred him to create Rexall Sundown in his garage growing the company until it became one of the world’s leading vitamin manufacturers and brands.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Carl invested in a beverage company named Celsius which disrupted the energy drink category by offering consumers a healthy alternative to sugary drinks.

To honor Mr. DeSantis’ lifelong fascination with health and nutrition, the Foundation supports programs and organizations that devise strategies for improving human health.

More to come because we’ve only just begun.

A Focus On Alzheimer's Disease

The Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation is dedicated to investing in promising Alzheimer’s research.

This devastating disease affects tens of millions of people worldwide, including an estimated 7 million Americans. About 1 in 9 Americans (10.9 percent) over the age of 65 has Alzheimer’s dementia.

The disease takes a tremendous toll on the families of loved ones struggling to care for those afflicted.

The Foundation is working with world class researchers to find a cure.
Our initial efforts include establishing a fellowship in computational neuroscience at the world-renowned Max Planck Institute in Florida and supporting cutting edge research in biomarkers at the famed Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Jacksonville, Florida. We are also supporting a pioneering effort at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida to engage the entire health care ecosystem to support patients and their families.
